This particular atlas is enhanced by 16 additional Arrowsmith maps, some being his scarcest and most important including the rare 2nd state 1843 Texas map titled; Map of Texas compiled from Surveys recorded in the Land Office of Texas, and other Official Surveys…, Recognised as an Independent State by Great Britain, 16th Nov, 1840. The map shows the seals of the Republic of Texas and the General Land Office of Texas beneath the title plus two insets of Galveston Bay and the geographical relationship of Mexico, Texas and the United States before the Mexican War. This map was the best available information on Texas during the decade when the political fate of the new Republic was of international concern. The information on geographical features, roadways, location of Indian tribes and the latest political divisions for the map was provided by the General Land Office of Texas.
