Book Description
ESTC T202655. A little known anthology, of which the first edition was published in Birmingham 'printed by Tho. Aris' in 1749. It consists of essays on subjects such as Friendship, Love, Taste, Eloquence, Education, Commerce, etc., with liberal extracts from ancient and modern verse, and the occasional short story, all aimed at 'satisfying a man's curiosity, and of becoming learn'd upon easy terms'. The Birmingham edition is uncommon, ESTC noting half a dozen copies in the U.K. and U.S. Of this London edition, ESTC records A SINGLE COPY ONLY (Sussex Archaeological Society).
