?First edition. A small leporello album, approx. 12 x 14cm., containing a concertina-folding sheet of 14 leaves with 24 lithographed views from photos. “by J. Chuck”, two further illusts. pasted inside boards including one with publisher’s details and a view of the publisher’s shop; a little damage to illust. inside upper board where it has some time come free from the board, else good in original lettered boards, lettering rather faded.
Dealer Notes
H. J. Summerscales was, according to the illustration inside the rear cover of the company shop, an “Importer of Books, Fancy & General Stationery”, based at 6, Sturt Street, Ballarat. The views in this album mainly include images of sites in the town such as Sturt Street, City Hall, the Orphan Asylum, but it also contains half-page views of the “Band and Albion, Consols Gold Mining Co.” and the “Gong-Gong Reservoir”. The album is rare, with only three Australian holdings and none elsewhere.
