The Satanist
Book Description
First edition, first impression. Inscribed presentation copy from the author. 8vo. Original decorative boards. Dust-jacket, priced 18s.
Dealer Notes
One of the author’s best known occultly themed works, here inscribed intriguingly by the author ‘For William & Poo – Better give up the drink and get those [?]crucifixes out quick – or else. Old [?]Book of the Hellfire Club’. The recipients are Wheatley’s daughter-in-law (nickname ‘Poo’) and favourite stepson, William Younger (aka William Mole, author of The Hammersmith Maggot). Wheatley was certainly au fait with the history of the notorious Hell Fire Club, having resurrected the club for his Napoleonic-era Roger Brook novel, The Irish Witch.
