Book Description
The First UK printing published by Eyre and Spottiswoode, London : 1954. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition with just a little toning to the text-block. A little dustiness to the upper text-block. Neat inscription to the front blank end-paper. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ condition. A little edge wear at the spine tips and corners. The spine and flap edges are lightly toned and there is a 5cm closed tear to the rear upper flap fold. The Lynton Lamb wrapper artwork looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. A very elusive travel account covering Cremona, Parma, Mantua, Ravenna, Urbino and Arezzo. All 8 B/W photographic plates are present. Templeton was described by Michael Sadleir in The Sunday Times as : 'A literary phenomenon of considerable interest, sensitive, controlled and wholly delightful. A masterly performance - civilised, felicitous and very funny'. Very scarce with the wrapper.
