The Techniques of Chinese Painting
Book Description
Translated by Gong Lizeng; English text; 259 Illustrations, many in colour. After a brief historical introduction to the art of
painting in China, the author describes the equipment needed, the selection of brushes and ink sticks, the execution of the traditional brush strokes, and the methods of applying colour. Thereafter he presents the techniques for creating form, texture and mood. Separate sections are devoted to landscape painting and flower-and-bird painting, showing in detail the methods and appearance of the differing styles. The text is copiously illustrated with examples in black-and-white as well as in colour, so that the beginner can develop a genuine appreciation and understanding of the art. At that stage, the subtleties of technique can be more easily acquired, and the student grows in confidence and skill.
