Recent quarter calf on marbled boards, edges speckled, upper corner to pages 80-90 marked, coming over the page number and just touching the text, last leaf foxed to verso, otherwise very clean, and printed on thick paper throughout. An extremely rare production of the Maitland Club, devoted to an equally unusual figure in Scottish history, a note to the front pastedown suggests that 92 copies were printed.
