26.5 cm x 19 cm, viii - 293 pages top edge gilt.Illstrated with 34 full page plates 9 are phototypes and 25 heliogravure also woodcuts to the text + folding coloured map. Stain mark to lower front edge of 1/2 title page blank margin to page viii, decreasing from 4.5 cm x 2 cm to 0, and just touching lower very outer edge of pages 265 to 295 at end. Some sporadic spotting to contents not affecting the plates but very occasionally the blank margin of the plate.The contents clean and tight ownership name to front paste down. Bound in the publishers dark green pebbled cloth gilt and red framed border to front board, gilt title and vignette to the spine. The binding clean and tight with no splits chips or marking.
