Trenta Novelle (Thirty Stories)
Book Description
loosely inserted printed paper slip states: "Trenta Novelle or Thirty Interesting Tales - Written in simple Italian expressly for the perusal of young English Ladies commencing the Study of Italian. By Professor Guerini. - A Copy of this Work has been graciously accepted by Her Majesty The Queen. - To be had of Messrs. Webster & Larkin, 60, Picadilly. - March,1872. - 54, South Molton Street, Grosvenor Square." The phrase: 'young English Ladies' has been underlined in ink & the name: 'Muriel Witham' written beneath. Also a line has been put through 'of Messrs. Webster & Larkin, 60, Picadilly.' and the words: 'only at Prof. Guerini's Residence' written above the Grosvenor Square address. Onde rendere le mie lezioni piu piacevoli ed utili raccontai a miei Allievi molte Novelle, e alle loro reiterate istanze acconsentii di pubblicarne trenta. Siccome le scrissi tali quali le ho narrate, prego quindi il cortese lettore di considerare questa mia operetta come un semplice racconto di una persona che parla, e non come un libro scritto con I studiata dicitura. (In order to make my lessons more enjoyable and useful I told to 'my students many Novelle, and their repeated instances I agreed to publish thirty. Since I wrote those such as I told, I please the gentle reader to consider this my operetta as a simple tale of a person speaking, and not as a book written with the studied words.) Errata (5 entries) written in the authors hand inside fep.
