Vastu Vidya: Studies in Indian Geomancy
Book Description
Vastu Vidya is the Indian art of architectural geomancy, similar to Feng Shui in China which deals with such things as the correct location and layout of homes and settlements, electional astrology, orientation, harmonious proportion and symbolism. Vastu Vidya; Studies in Indian Geomancy is a collection of essays which gives an account of the electional astrology of building and occupying a home, some of the symbolism of Indian sacred architecture, the Vastu Purusha Mandala and Yogini Yantra, site selection considerations including augury, the fixing of the Naga, feng shui type rules on the orientation of doors and the placement of trees, the Ayadivarga formulae and the Vithi system of zoning. As well as the authors musings on these topics practical sections allow for experimentation with these ideas especially orientation, electional astrology and the Ayadivarga formulae which are used to link the site to astrological factors such as the lunar days, constellations, and planets.
