Book Description

Undated, this is a leather bound album containing twenty photographs recording a cruise of the Steam Ship Garonne to Norway. The album is bound in half leather measuring 12.5 inches by 9.5 inches approx., the photographs measure 8.75 inches by 6.5 inches approx.. The S. S. Garonne was a 382 foot Passenger / Cargo vessel built in Glasgow by Robert Napier & Sons in 1871, and passed through a number of owners until it was broken up in 1905. All the photographs in the album were taken by Knud Knudsen who was on of Norway’s first professional photographers, his photography career ran from 1862-1900. So the album will most likely date sometime between 1871-1900, I can find no record of the ships cruise to Norway, nor any record of another copy of this album. The binding has some rubbing wear to edges, there is a two inch split to the leather on the lower rear spine edge, some dents to the cloth on rear cover, internally the silk endpapers are marked and stained
