1st Edition. 23.8 x29.7 cm oatmeal cloth boards with black titles to the front. Pictorial endpapers, unpaginated with 12 tipped in coloured plates each with captioned tissue guards. The book comes in its original unclipped dust jacket priced at 15/- net. A lovely copy, with just a hint of toning to small areas of the spine matching loss to the jacket. Internally clean, without name, inscription or bookplate. All the plates and there captioned tissue-guards are in excellent condition and there are one or two very light handling marks only. The dust jacket, which is now protected in a removable, clear cover (not shown), is dust stained with rubbing to the edges. It has losses to the spine of 2cm at the head, 1.5cm in the middle and a smaller 3mm chip at the foot. There is minor loss to the corners and a closed tear of 4cm on the top edge of the front panel. There are also three further closed tears of 1-1.5 cm on the edges. All in all an excellent first edition copy of this book that was not published in the USA until 55 years later.
