Book Description

3 Vols. Vol 1: 1853, Vol 2, 1853; Vol 3, 1854. First editions of volumes 2 and 3, early printing of volume 1. Frontis to each volume. Contemporary half calf on marbled boards, with matching marbled edges and endpapers, spine gilt, rather rubbed, hinges weak, volume two rebacked with spine relaid. Label Arthur Baker, Park House, Clifton to verso of each fly-leaf. The three frontispieces are foxed, otherwise clean examples of this important (and immensely successful) work by Dickens, in which he puts forward what he felt was a clearly revisionist view of English history.
