A HISTORY OF BRITISH BIRDS. Second edition.
Book Description
SIX VOLUMES. 4to. (10 x 7.3 inches). Complete and beautifully illustrated with 365 finely hand coloured full page plates, each with a tissue guard. Bound in attractive early half dark green morocco leather, by Bickers and Son. The spines with five raised bands, each with a gilt ruled line. The compartments fully decorated, lettered and double ruled in gilt. The spines have all faded to a uniform and attractive mid brown colour and the gilt is still bright and fresh. Green morocco grained cloth on boards. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. This is an ex library set but the only evidence is a library stamp, with circular 'cancelled' stamp over it, and five digit library number to each title page. The rest of the volumes, both text and plates are unmarked. Some foxing to the first and last few pages of each volume and to the margins of some plates but overall a very good set of this classic ornithological work.
