Book Description

8vo. pp xliv,331,[1] (ads). Complete and correct, with the frontispiece present. Contemporary plain speckled calf, hinges weak, corners to board worn. Internally clean. An example of a binding that is practical rather than luxurious, with a flat spine but five gold lines where the raised bands would be. To the front flyleaf is written: Charlotte Bellard, the gift of my mistress Mrs Thomas Burney, January 1789. ESTC T104490. Elizabeth Burnet was an interesting woman, independent yet pious and clear in her mind as to practical affairs. She used her considerable wealth to philanthropic purposes. Bishop Burnet was her second husband, and this text produced after her first spouse, Robert Berkeley, died.
