Richard Ellmann (1918-87), American literary critic and biographer of James Joyce, Oscar Wilde and W. B. Yeats. A Mine of Serpents is the sequel to The Military Orchid and the second part of ‘The Orchid Trilogy’ which was completed with The Goose Cathedral in 1950.
