Dealer Notes
A very thorough piece of research giving not only a potted history of each mill, but also a detailed list of papers available. Mills in 12 countries are represented, all in Europe, plus 2 mills in India. As Mr. Beale points out in his useful introduction “It is a remarkably small list of hand-made papers, considering that 175 years ago all paper was made by hand from rags, whereas today the world's production can be listed in a few short pages”. Doubtless many of the mills do not now exist, but I think there has been a resurgence of interest since this book was published and several mills have been started up. This charming and well produced little book provides an interesting perspective on how things were about 50 years ago.
