On folding linen in sixteen sections size 70.5 by 53 cm. Scale 69 miles to a degree or 5 miles to the inch. Dedicated to the Duke of Richmond. Hand-coloured. Distances from York are indicated by a series of fine concentric circles radiating outwards. Key gives information on churches & chapels seats and villages market towns Roman roads post stages and borough towns. Columns of information on each side of the map list the nobility and gentry of the county with their county seats. A decorative cartouche to the bottom l/hand corner contains the dedication to the Duke and another to the bottom r/hand corner the title of the map.Complete with original slipcase worn but intact and with the label of the London printer and bookseller. Map Good to VG condition.
