Hardback. Very attractively bound modern French version of the medieval chantefable Aucassin et Nicolette. Chante-Fable du XIIe siècle. Modern French translation by Gustave Michaut. Beautifully illustrated with 12 full page colour illustrations by Léon Carré (1878-1942). A highly decorative edition with medieval script style presentation of the text in red and black with decorative borders and illustrated capital letters. Illustrated title page. Half bound in cream vellum by Flammarion with marbled papers to side in pastel shades. spine painted with the title to the spine in red and back. Marbled endpapers. Flammarion stamped in tiny letters to recto of endpaper. Alternative decorated paper spine unused and bound into the rear of the book. Ribbon bookmark. Cream vellum sound but very tanned and slightly dust marked. Marbled papers are slightly stained to edges but a generally very clean. Ribbon bookmark is ink stained. Text is clean and crisp and the lovely illustrations are bright.
