Dealer Notes
The origins of the soapmaking business of Christopher Thomas in Bristol date back to 1825 when Thomas, a Welshman, came to the city and opened a soap manufactory in Redcliffe. In the 1880s the company moved to Broad Plain, in the building now occupied by Gardiner Haskins. In 1912 the company was taken over by Lever Brothers and it survived until 1954 when Lever decided to close the Bristol factory and consolidate all its soap manufacture into Port Sunlight in Cheshire. On offer here are 6 copies of the company's in-house magazine in an unbroken run from Autumn 1951 to Winter 1952/53 - as the company closed soon afterwards, perhaps this is a complete set? They contain articles submitted by the company's employees as well as regular features such as 'Talk at St Thomas's - News Items of the Quarter' and 'C.T.B Entertains'.
