Book Description

The First UK printing published by Faber and Faber in 1966. The BOOK is in near Fine condition being tightly bound and with no inscriptions. Minor spotting to the top edge but the text block and foredges are clean. The original WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ or better condition. Slight wear to the top of the spine and a light diagonal crease above the price. The usual fading to the spine but this is much lighter than usually encountered and has not encroached onto the front panel. A couple of very small closed tears to the rear panel edges. Light toning to the rear cover edges. The wrapper looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. Accompanied by a loosely inserted paper card which has been simply Signed by Seamus Heaney in black ink. Housed in a custom green slip case. A much better copy than is usually encountered of this the author's first commercially published collection of poetry. Although Heaney would not win the Nobel Prize in Literature until 1995, 'Death of a Naturalis't won the young poet notable awards, including the Somerset Maugham Award, the Cholmondeley Award, the Eric Gregory Award, and the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize. Increasingly scarce.
