Book Description
First issue with “Drawings, &c.” to half title. 6 engraved plates by R. Bentley, head- and tail-pieces and initials by Grignion and Muller after Bentley, 4pp “Explanation of the Prints” by Horace Walpole” to end. Arguably, the finest example of 18th century book illustration, overall style is Strawberry Hill Gothic. Book is rather browned with some foxing to plates. Plate to “A Long Story” is shaved to edge. Contemporary marbled boards , rubbed, book has been re-backed in calf. Several bookplates to endpapers.
