Frauengluck. Bilder aus dem weiblichen Leben.
Book Description
First edition, and a fine set, of these ten reproductions of original paintings by Pauline Kohlschütter (born 1851) depicting domestic happiness, love, courtship, marriage and motherhood. Each image is accompanied with an appropriate poem. Pauline Kohlschütter here presents a romanticised and nostalgic look at female happiness, which consists of domestic bliss, marriage and motherhood, all set in late 18th-century interiors, and with the happy couple wearing nostalgic costume of the same period. It is quite remarkable how escapist these images were at a time when the industrial revolution was shaking the basis of society and forcing new roles onto women.
