Book Description

Fifth Edition. One of the most famous of all Gothic novels, inspired by Walpole's 'Castle of Otranto' but intended to be less violent in its effects. (Walpole thought it 'insipid'.) The book was first published under the title 'The Champion of Virtue' but when altered to the present title it was immensely successful.
