Guide Pittoresque du Voyageur en France
Book Description
Guide Pittoresque du Voyageur en France, by Girault de St Fargeau, published by Firmin Didot, Paris 1851. This is a 4th edition, with the itineraries in earlier editions condensed and updated in the one volume, presumably to take account of the coming of the railways. The book divides the itineraries through France into five regions and twenty-nine routes. Another 6 cross-country routes have been included. The itineraries involve the descriptions of towns and cities plus details of the railway lines and stations en route. Illustrated by dozens of topographical and architectural engravings. Complete with a large folding map at the back of the book. Map extends to 68 cm by 61 cm, and shows the French railway network in great detail. 602 pages of text plus 20 pp index. Some foxing to the title page, introduction and endpapers, and foxing to some of the book but with minimal effect on the text. Small library stamp to front endpaper and repair to map. Size 18 cm by 11 cm. In original boards and spine, with gold blind-stamped title.
