An excellent association copy with light rubbing and some dust marking to the boards. There are a couple of tiny 2mm holes in the cloth at the head of the spine. Internally there is a bookplate for Car. Jac. Longman on the front pastedown. There is a hint of toning to the front free endpaper and minor spotting to the uncut edges. The frontispiece has more significant spotting but this has not affected any of the other pages. The rear pocket containing the facsimile horn books is complete and undamaged and all three books are present and in excellent condition. Tuer’s inscription on the front free endpaper reads, ‘To/ Sir John Evans K.C.B., F.R.S. etc, etc./ from Andrew Tuer/ with feelings of respect, admiration/ & gratitude’ The accompanying letter also signed by Tuer explains that he is unable to send the 2 Volume edition as it has already sold out. All in all a lovely, scarce, signed copy.
