Book Description

FIRST EDITION. 4to. (11 X 7.9 inches). 134pp. Illustrated with 16 fine albumen photographic prints of Locomotives, each mounted onto a card page with the technical details for that engine printed on the pages following each image, plus an engraved frontis of the Locomotive works building and several smaller wood engraved illustrations throughout the text. All pages with a printed red ruled border. Original brown pebble grained cloth on bevelled edges boards with gilt lettering to the front cover and spine. Blind stamped rule and decorative corner borders on both boards. There is a split to the cloth on about a third of the lower outer hinge, but the book is still tight and intact. Original dark brown coated endpapers. A crease to the front free endpaper and one page bumped to the outer corner of one mount page, not affecting the image and some minor rubbing and marking to the binding but overall a very good copy of this uncommon catalogue. --- Contains a history of the firm up to 1871.
