Early binding of half leather (spines and corners, with gilt titles and borders to spines) over marbled boards, and with marbled endpapers and page edges. xiv, 320pp, and Vol. 2 continues to 625pp. Vol. 1 with 21 b&w engravings in plates including frontispiece, Vol. 2 with 18 engravings in plates (a total of 39 as called for), plus engraved vignette on title page of Vol. 2. A Very Good set. Gilt bright to spines, with some light rubs to leather, and the marbled boards rubbed with abrasions in places. The binding is sound, though stretched near front of Vol. 2. The pages are largely clean though the plates have darkened margins (sometimes heavily) and backs due to type of paper used. No ownership inscriptions. Very nice set.
