Delicately hand-coloured, engraved plate from the work, Natursystem aller bekannten in- und ausländischen Insecten: Schmetterlinge (1783-1804), one of the most attractively illustrated entomological works of the period. This plate includes six figures (upper and underside) of three nymphalid butterflies, including the wet and dry season forms of the peacock pansy (from southeast Asia) (Junonia almana), named as Papilio almana and P. asterie, and the white peacock (from southeastern United States, Central and South America) (Anartia jatrophae) named as P. jatrophe.
