The lot consists of an album containing seventeen large format photographs taken by the author, accompanied with typewritten text titled “Notes on a Visit to Serbia, August 1919”,
It appears he went to Serbia in 1919 on a fact-finding mission to see the state of the country after the First World War with a view to seeing how Britian could help in getting the country back on its feet economically and what infrastructure had survived, and what was needed in the way of reconstruction.
He is looking at the Ports and possible improvements, the improvement of waterways for navigation, the City of Belgrade, its water supply, possible sites for new gas works, improvement of road surfaces in the city with the latest surface technology, the repair of damaged buildings, improvement of the sewage systems, the development of the city park. The possibility of exports of Fruit, Maize & Cereals in exchange for the country to import from Britian badly needed manufactured goods. Etc
The album is accompanied with a large scale map of the City of Belgrade measuring 132cm by 132cm approx., this is on linen with a hand drawn appearance, though it might have been printed, there are definite hand written notes to the map by the author, in which he is showing a new pipeline scheme and Tram Routes which include 12 miles of single track and 3 miles of extensions and loops.
The album measures 40cm by 28cm approx., the photos mostly measure 30cm by 15cm approx..
The notes in the album refer to another more general map of Serbia, unfortunately that is not present, just the pictured large-scale linen map of Belgrade.
The albums card covers are worn at edges and around the spine with some loss, edge loss to a couple of the page edges.
The linen map is creased from folding and has some marks else in good general condition.
