Book Description

These two treatises by the 19th century scholar John Adey Repton are all about HATS & different head coverings. The full titles should read as follows : 'Observations on the various fashions of hats, bonnets or coverings for the head, chiefly from the reign of Henry VIII to the 18th century'. 'Observations on female head-dress in England, chiefly subsequent to the date of Mr Strutt's remarks in his ' Habits of the People of England' in a letter to Nicholas Carlisle'. This is an unusual work by an author who was very interested in social customs. He also published a work on beards & moustaches as well as titles on more classical themes like architecture & archaeology.
