ARTHUR RANSOME Signed Postcard from the Hotel Continental, Petrograd [Russia]. 1916. Autographed postcard, signed and dated. Addressed to F.J. Hillier at the Daily News in London, Ransome asks to be sent The Star as well as the Daily News. Ransome went to Russia in 1913, probably to escape his first wife and daughter, initially to study Russian folklore, but after the start of the war he became foreign correspondent for the radical Daily News, covering the Eastern Front, later the Bolshevik Revolution. He was friendly with the Bolsheviks and eventually married Trotsky’s personal secretary.
