First edition. 8vo. pp. vii, [i], 320; 4 coloured lithographic plates, one folding map; slight offsetting from frontis. to title-page, Eton prize inscription to front blank, else very good in contemporary full calf, gilt decorated spine with contrasting label, slightly bumped to corners of boards, a handsome copy.

AB 12899. Osborn commanded the ‘Pioneer’ under Capt. H. T. Austin in the search for Sir John Franklin’s lost expedition. The ships travelled via Baffin Bay, Lancaster Sound and Barrow Strait before wintering at Griffith Island. Osborn’s account describes the West Greenland Eskimos, as well as the various sledge journeys undertaken on the expedition.
