Dealer Notes
A lot has gone wrong with this early edition of Jules Verne’s Survivors of the Chancellor and Martin Paz. This version comes standard with some interesting quirks, such as the hybrid publication attribution to both James R. Osgood of Boston and Porter & Coates (see spine). The gilt stamp on the cover is not centered (unlike the 1876 Osgood-only production). It features two frontispeices— with the Martin Paz frontispiece being rare as it was inserted after publication. It is present in this copy.
The end of Martin Paz’s tragedy, however, is not present due to a printer’s error! Page 352 ends mid-line and the subsequent page is the half-title, followed by the Chancellor frontispiece, and list of illustrations— a duplicate from the beginning.
