Paul Drury was at the centre of the revival of the pastoral tradition at Goldsmith's College in the 1920's, along with Robin Tanner, Graham Sutherland, Bouverie Hoyton & William Larkins, among others, rejecting the plein air tradition of etching which was prevalent at the time. The limited edition wood-engraving that is included with the book is of particular importance, being one of the earliest works by any of the Goldsmiths' group that can really be described as pastoral.
