The Conceited Stag and other Fables Marcus Ward Toy book c1870s 6 pages of colourful illustrations, 6 pages of text, a page about Aesop And His Fables, being an abridged essay by John R A Oetzmann, author of “Hints on House Furnishing and Decoration” plus 3 pages of illustrated advertisements for Oetzmann & Co Artistic & Complete House Furnishers. The other fables include The Boy Who Cried “Wolf!”, The Monkey and the Cats; and The Old Man & The Bundle of Sticks. 280 x 195 mm [approx 11” x 8”] Thin card pictorial wraps, the rear cover being an advertisement for Oetzmann & Co. Minor wear at extremities, light marking else a very good copy of a scarce item.

Very scarce No other copy located for sale. PBA Galleries auction fairly recently had a copy of Marcus Ward’s Fable PictureBooks published in 1874, comprised of 4 separate toybook parts, [The Conceited Stag being one of them], but no copy of this toybook located elsewhere.
