Book Description

C. Arthur Pearson Ltd. 1897 this is the First British Printing of H. G. Wells’s The War of the Worlds, the classic alien invasion novel, published in instalments in the 1897 January to June and July to December volumes of Pearson’s Magazine, well illustrated throughout by the artist Warwick Goble. Bound in the original publishers binding, just under 10 inches tall.
Dealer Notes
The covers are noticeably darkened with some marking, edge bumps, fraying at spine ends, internally the first volume has foxing and marking to endpapers, browning to title and contents pages which are printed on different paper stock than the text pages, some marking to first page, and the last six pages to the first volume are heavily foxed (not to the War of the Worlds)
Internally the second volume has some cracking to inner front joint, and very noticeable cracking to the rear joint where the webbing is completely exposed leaving the rear joint weakened, some marking to endpapers, a few marks within, some creasing wear to top page corners, else in good general condition.
Inner joints to the second volume would benefit from tightening else an acceptable example of the true first British printing of this classic Victorian Alien Invasion Novel.
