Two prospectuses, approx. 25 x 20, each printed to one side only on white or blue paper, announcing the forthcoming publication of Chimmo’s book, with a note about Subscribers’ Copies, in very good condition.

Dealer Notes

William Chimmo published his Bed of the Atlantic in about 1870. It offered a record of specimens dredged in the North Atlantic in 1868 aboard H.M.S. Gannet. The book itself bears no imprint, but the first prospectus offered here has the printers details “London :- J. Malby, Queen Street, Holborn. Weymouth :- R. H. Croyden, Esplanade. 1870.” The second prospectus, printed on blue paper, has identical wording, but has only the Weymouth ‘imprint’. The prospectus titles Chimmo’s book, A Pictorial Illustration of Marine Life at Great Depths, but in the event the book was published as Bed of the Atlantic.
