1930s Souvenir Paper Fan from Le Lido Champs Elysees, Paris
Book Description
1930s, 41 x 17cm, pictorial paper with metal frame. Good condition given its fragility and age! A previous owner has strengthened the top edge with lick and stick brown tape and there is a bit of loss to the paper on the handle, along with some general wear. Otherwise this is in remarkably good condition. Le Lido Champs Elysees, Paris was established in 1928 and remained in business until 1933 - this fan is certainly a rare survivor! Le Lido Champs Elysees was known as 'Lido, Paris Beach' and was located in the basement of 78 Avenue des Champs-Elysees. A large underground pool was created and entertainments of various kinds provided: a casino, musical performances, a bar, and so on. Le Lido, as it is known today, was reopened as a cabaret and burlesque venue in the same location in 1946 (from which premises it moved in 1977 to the Normandie at 116 Avenue des Champs Élysées). Famous acts have appeared at Le Lido, including Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich. A super item!
