A selection from the writings of Viscount Strangford on political, geographical, and social subjects / edited by the Viscountess Strangford.
Book Description
First edition. 8vo. Two vols. Vol One: portrait photograph frontispiece, vi, [iv], 349: Vol Two: vi, 341 (1); [2] (ads). Half title present to volume 1. Folding sketch map of Asia to volume two (sometime repaired with tape on folds). Original publishers decorated cloth, skilfully rebacked. Stamp of the "Clinton Hall Association, for the use of the mercantile library" to title page of both volumes. The paper of these volumes is exceedingly poor quality, being somewhat acidic, and there is an occasional archive tape repair, including to the inner margins of the title pages. An important volume, covering Crete, the Ottoman Empire, Bulgaria, the Jews in the Balkans, the Sultan s visit to England, Central Asia, and short notes on people and topics of the day . Unusual to find on the market, presumably because of the poor quality of the original book production it was published after Strangford s untimely death as an immediate intellectual memorial. This set has been restored and looks quite nice now. Not in Blackmer.
