Book Description

Blessed: The Autobiography, George Best, Ebury Press, 2001, Signed First Edition First Impression Book signing photo Regarded as one of the best players in the history of football, named European Footballer of the Year in 1968 and sixth in the FIFA Player of the Century vote, Best received plaudits for his playing style which combined pace, skill, balance, feints, two-footedness, goalscoring and the ability to get past defenders and became one of the first media celebrity footballers. Written only three years before his death in 2005 and in his own words, Best recounts the halcyon days at Manchester United, the big games and the European Cup win of 1968. He also reveals the heartbreaking truth about the death of his mother and his struggles with alcohol that forced him to face up to a life without drink. The title page has been signed by the Best with no personal dedication. Included with the book is a photograph of the footballer signing the book and a note from the photographer confirming provenance. A Signed First Edition, First Impression in near fine condition. The binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the sound bright. There is minimal shelf wear to the top edge of the spine. The end papers and pages are free from marks, tears or inscriptions. The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a clear, removable cover is in fine condition with no issues. A very rare find especially with the provenance of the signature together with the photograph which would make an impressive addition to a library or a wonderful gift.
