Having resigned his commission in the British Army he arranged to be sent to Africa as a correspondent for The Morning Post reporting the Second Boer War. The book covers Hamilton's progress from Bloemfontein to Pretoria and numerous sizeable conflicts with Boer forces along the way. In very good condition the binding is straight and tight, boards marked in parts with gilt lettering bright, creasing to top and bottom of the spine, the endpapers and pages are clean and free from marks, tears and inscriptions. Tissue guard covering frontispiece in place.
