A Lovely fully restored copy of the scarce First Edition in clean sound condition with the original Gutta percha replaced. PARABLES was the first of Humphreys's illuminated books in High Victorian Gothic "papier-mache" boards and Gutta Percha or Caoutchouc binding ( A method soon abandoned when it was discovered how quickly the book disintegrated) 12mo 32 pages of Chromolithographed illuminations. All edges gilt with marbled ep's and with a splendid contemporary hand-painted New Years Day presentation bookplate. The gift of Anna Field to Edmund Field.
