Two images of Sir Water Scott's famous home of Abbotsford on the River Tweed. The shelves of volumes depicted in the library view, which includes a desk and armchair before the fireplace, is particularly evocative.
John Lennie joined the Photographic Society of Scotland in 1856 and the Edinburgh Photographic Society in 1861. He is listed in trade directories as a photographer for 1890 only.
The Lennie family were opticians who were based at this 46 Princes Street address from 1856 until 1921 - just about opposite the Scott Monument.
