Written by the first professor of physics at Mason Science College from 1880 to 1900 and then at the successor institution, the University Of Birmingham until his death. This essay was awarded the Adams Prize in 1893 by the University of Cambridge.
The book contains illustrations and seven folding plates.
The book has been signed by the author to a book plate with a neat personal dedication.
There is a personal name and address and a dated note to the rear of the front end paper.
There is a Birmingham University stamp to the title page.
In good condition, the binding is straight but slightly loose, the boards clean apart from marks to the front board and the lettering on the spine quite bright. There is rubbing to the corners, damage to the top edge of the spine, shelf wear to the bottom edge of the spine and wear and marks to the spine. The end papers and pages are free from marks and inscriptions. There is some damage to the join of the front end papers.
Unseen anywhere else.
Will be dispatched carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and a cardboard box
