Published in 1906 six years before Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Lost World, this is the English First Edition of this very Rare early work of Vernian inspired Science Fiction / Lost World / Lost Race Novel, Jules Verne is actually mentioned in the text, A tale of the invention of a Super Submarine which is 350 feet long, A group of Adventurer’s accompanied by the ships designer Professor Merwyn, sail to the Northern Arctic to prove that there is a Warm Sea beyond the ice barrier. On reaching the Arctic they dive beneath the ice only to be caught in a strong magnetic field and are drawn down into a hollow Earth to a land that is populated with strange plant life, Giant Fish Lizard’s, Dinosaurs, Giant Spiders, Giant Vampire Bats Giant Elks and the Wolf Men of the title who prove to be an incredibly vicious species with all the attributes given to Werewolves. The group are befriended by a Giant who turns out to be a survivor of Atlantis, they undergo many thrilling edge of the seat adventures in this strange world before managing to return to the surface and escape through a volcano. Figured in Bleiler Science Fiction The Early Years and in Locke Spectrum of Fantasy this is recognised as being a very scarce title. The book features a pictorial cover depicting a fight with one of the Wolfmen and an illustration to the spine, internally book is illustrated with eight colour plates.
Dealer Notes
There are some marks and fading wear to covers, a bump to lower corner of the upper board, some fraying wear to spine ends, internally has been fitted with new front endpaper which is white, the original floral rear endpaper is still present, some occasional foxing marks, short clean edge tear to top of page 83 with no loss, else in good acceptable condition
