Book Description
An unusually explicit Red China poster, advertising adult products (birth control?), and dates to after 1969. Produced by The People’s Fine Art House, approximate size 20 ½ x 29 ¾ in. The print is after a painting by an unknown artist. An unusual image, especially when such material appeared under the hardline Maoist aesthetic in the Cultural Revolution, although sexual life in a family setting was not apparently proscribed. In rough translation the headline apparently reads “Who is my companion ?“ which might suggest a warning against taking unknown sexual companions. The design, with the naked female, red clothing, embroidered ball, and water, apparently represents love, and sexual passion. We are selling this poster as a decorative item as it is difficult to translate the text, date, and context of the work with certainty.
