Book Description

Winter Holiday, Arthur Ransome, Jonathan Cape, 1935 Winter Holiday was Ransome's fourth instalment in the Swallows and Amazons series following Swallows and Amazons, Swallowdale and Peter Duck. A latter day J.K.Rowling Ransome's books were on Christmas lists as a matter of course. First editions for this volume with dust wrappers are fairly scarce. This is a first edition third impression (printed 1935) in a second impression dust wrapper. The binding is tight with a slight lean, the boards bright and clean, the beautifully illustrated endpapers have retained their colours superbly with some foxing to the lighter areas, the pages are clean without tears or markings with an owner's name and bookplate to the first free blank page. The page edges are tanned in line with age. The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a clear removable cover, has retained its colour well with darkening to some areas other than the front. There is some loss to the spine and previous tears that have been taped from the inside to provide a satisfactory cover. Will be dispatched carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and a cardboard box.
