1844 Manuscript Railway Maps
Book Description
This is a very rare collection of two original Manuscript handwritten plans dated 1844 for a proposed New Railway Line from the Shelton area of Stoke on Trent to Stafford, the first plan is a map of the proposed route, the second is a sectional in cross section showing the gradients and inclination, the route map shows the railway passing through the towns and villages of Fenton, Longton, Blurton, Trentham, Barlaston, Little Meaford, Meaford Township, Stone, Aston by Stone, Marston, Tillington, Stafford, this plan measures 58 inches by 18.5 inches approx. and has thirteen smaller inset maps showing enlarged areas along the line, this map has been drawn on Afonwen Mill paper with a watermarked date of 1834, the second plan is a companion map showing the cross section gradients of the proposed line measuring 64 inches by 18.5 inches approx., both maps have some creasing and mild marking, a few edge tears with minimal loss, repaired with acid free museum archival tape on the reverse of the maps only. Two very important original Manuscript primary documents relating to the building of the Railway Line between Stoke on Trent and Stafford, both plans have been stored rolled and will be posted in a postal tube.
