Included by BBC News on its list of the 100 Most Inspiring Novels and adapted for TV in 2020, this story is set in a newly post-independence, post-partition India and follows four families over eighteen months and revolves around Mrs. Rupa Mehra's efforts to arrange the marriage of her younger daughter Late to a "suitable boy". The novel was snubbed by Booker and has subsequently been hailed as the greatest Indian Novel.
This is a First Edition, First Impression, First Issue with olive green end papers.
The title page has been signed by the author with a neat personal dedication.
In near fine condition, the binding is straight and tight, the boards clean and the lettering on the spine bright. There is a small crease mark to the top corner of the front board and minor shelf wear to the top edge of the spine. The end papers and pages are free from tears and inscriptions. There are faint marks to the top edge. The first free page has a small loss.
The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a clear, removable cover is in very good condition with a small mark to the front cover, nibbling to the top edge of the spine and nibbling to the top edge of the back cover.
Will be dispatched carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and a cardboard box.
